The Book of Enoch

Is the Book of Enoch genuine? There are three versions of the Book of Enoch generally known in these modern times. The Ethiopian version is said to be the most likely true version, but I do not think that any of them are the real deal. I will explain why, based on the Ethiopian version, which has the best reputation.

First of all, the narrator describes seasons. The seasons described in Genesis do not necessarily refer to spring, summer, fall, and winter. It could be referring to periods of time with spiritual significance. In any case, in the beginning, the Earth was enclosed in a canopy that kept the whole planet at one temperature the whole year round. Before the Flood, the weather most certainly never got as hot as the book describes and there was no dormant season for plants.

The things that the rebel angels taught:

Weapons – The Bible says that Tubal–cain invented armaments.

Jewellery – the antediluvians were brilliant and capable of inventing jewellery themselves. Their clothes were probably gorgeous and they would have caught on quickly to carving wood, bone, and minerals, and smelting pretty metals for ornaments. Tubal–cain, out of the evil in his heart, was the first to use this skill to make instruments of destruction.

Dye – Really? Even people who live in modern times, with a much lower intellectual capacity than the antediluvians, who used 100% of their brains, can figure out how to make dyes. This book was written by someone who had a prejudice against colourful clothing, though colour is God's invention.

Make–up – no instruction needed, if you want to go overboard and look like an ancient Egyptian. People can figure it out for themselves and the antediluvians were quite capable of making cosmetics that did not harm their bodies. They were capable of dreaming it up themselves to subtly enhance their already considerable beauty to give them an edge over the competition, or to trowel it on lavishly to identify themselves as an aristocrat or any other message they wanted to convey.

Writing – as if the antedulivians were simpletons who could not figure this out for themselves, if they wanted it. They had such a great brain capacity, though, that they probably never forgot anything. In any case, they had Adam for nearly 1000 years to consult and to recite history for them. Even people who were born after the Flood, with their lowered mental capacity, have invented alphabets and writing, without any help from fallen angels.

If writing was taught by the angels who taught sinful stuff, then they were sinful angels. Why would Enoch write a book, if it was sinful to use writing? Obviously, writing in itself is not sinful, and if anyone invented it and taught it, it was probably Enoch. He wasn't going to be around as long as Adam was to pass on his knowledge.

Which brings us to another conspicuous mistake – Enoch hobnobbing with rebel angels. The Bible says He walked with God. It is unlikely that he wanted to learn anything from rebel angels. People who consult demon spirits get themselves into deep trouble; wise people stay far away from this pitfall.

I have not read anything at this point that convinces me that these were angels from Heaven who lusted after women. Angels in Heaven can undoubtedly see microbes and germs. After the Fall, people had those repulsive things crawling on them, causing sickness, making it necessary to take baths. Why would a pure, holy angel look upon women who have germs and do not smell as good as Heaven, and lust after them? All the angels who wanted to rebel against God and had gone over to Lucifer were kicked out of Heaven with him; the latter were perverted and eager to defile humankind.

Aside from physical decay, God's angels can discern the stench of demons and see them attached to sinful beings. All of those women, even the godly ones, had some sin attached to them. Holy angels are so lured by sex that they would copulate with a creature who has demons latched onto them, and they can see the demons grinning and leering at them, triumphing in their victory? Angels don't tolerate smiles from demons; every chance they get, they knock their teeth out. Besides that, I don’t think that Heaven’s angels desire sex. After all, Jesus said that they don’t.

So far, the available Books of Enoch sound like a Jewish fable, written by some well–meaning rabbi who was ignorant of certain facts about the antediluvian world, and intended as a novel that teaches holiness, with his own personal prejudices against make–up, which was worn only by nobles and the promiscuous in his day.

The rebels wanted eternal life and to live on Earth for 500 years. Why only 500 years when 1000 years was the normal lifespan? Whoever wrote this did not believe the Bible, which ascribes nearly 1000 years lifespans to the antediluvians. Unless that applied only to godly men and women, and sinners had shortened lifespans, as will be the case during the Millennium. Which, again, points to the involvement of evil angels in the seductions or rapes of mortal women.

The offspring of the rebel angels are described as beloved and they will not have them to enjoy them. Rebel angels do not love. They have no capacity for it. They cut themselves off from love when they turned against God.

Describing the throne room of God, rivers of fire flowing from it, and no angel can enter it. The Bible says in Isaiah that the angels of God were in the throne room, and a river of water flows from the Throne. The Book of Enoch sounds like it was birthed in someone’s imagination, but not Enoch’s.

I think that it's pretty clear that the angels in the Book of Enoch are fallen angels, and who cares what their names were? Jesus did not.

It is a total misconception that people have to know the name of a demon before they can expel it from its host. Jesus asked that question only one time and the demon replied that it was Legion. Jesus did not order them to tell Him all their names. The only reason Jesus asked its name was because He wanted to demonstrate that He could cast out thousands of demons in only a minute, and we can, too, if we have been redeemed by His blood and have pure faith to do all the deeds He did, and even greater things, as He said.

We should not feed the pride of fallen angels by seeking to know their names. Just evict them. If the person they inhabit wants them gone and are willing to do what is necessary to keep them gone, we don't need to know their putrid names and they aren't likely tell us their real names because they are liars. The name game is just one of their ways to delay their eviction and put the person they are possessing or oppressing through the meat grinder before they leave.

Reference is made to Enoch’s book in the Bible and I think some of those references were incorporated into this book, to make it appear authentic, if it is a deliberate scam, or simply to make it sound like Enoch’s story, written without malice, but with a lot of poetic license.

Michael is said to be put in charge of the best part of men and in charge of their nation. This is definitely Jewish propaganda. The Bible says that Michael is in charge of the Israelites, but God made it plain, through Moses, that He did not choose them because they were the best of men. The other nations were destroyed because they were extremely evil and their land was given to the Israelites for the sake of promises that God made to their forefather Abraham, who was His friend. In fact, in Deuteronomy 32:6 and Jeremiah 4:22, God says that the Israelites are foolish, but further on in His Word, He says that He chooses that which is weak and foolish to confound the strong and wise, and thus all the credit goes to God for their success. (1 Corinthians 1:27)

Everything, except where God is praised and where passages have been borrowed from the real Book of Enoch, was made up by some backwards rabbi who thought he was doing a good thing, though it was presented as if it were the authentic words of Enoch, Methuselah, and Noah.

Noah supposedly speaks to Enoch, who is now in Heaven, and Enoch tells him that lead and tin are not produced from the Earth, but from a spring that is under the charge of an angel. Like Enoch knows nothing about geology. As if Noah knew nothing about geology. Again, antediluvians were not stupid. They were brilliant and had advanced technology. Even if the fallen angels had not helped them with technology, they still would have had stuff that was far in advance of modern man, if man was just left to himself without interference from fallen angels.

"Enoch" describes precipitation to his son, which did not exist in the antediluvian world. The Bible says it was watered by a mist. Methuselah had no reason to know anything about hurricanes, snow, and hail, as it all happened after he died. Nor did “Enoch” understand astronomy, according to this book, but the real Enoch did and many others did, as well. There was no need for angels to teach them, especially to teach them wrong. It wasn't like all the things Adam figured out and that God told him before the Fall went totally out of his head after the Fall. He still had his memory intact and his intellect.

Enoch would also have known that the sun is an orb, not a disc, especially if God's angels taught him.

I really wish that Christians who accept the "Book of Enoch" and quote from it would stop and think about whether it lines up with the Bible. If the real Book of Enoch still exists, it is probably locked up in a secret library that is open to very few people. If it still exists. As much as I enjoy reading history that helps me gain a clearer understanding of the Bible, it seems to me that what we have in the Holy Bible is more than enough to guide us safely through life until we reach our Heavenly home, so we don't need to fret about not having the Book of Enoch as part of it.

Come on, you great Bible teachers, prophets, etc. who quote the Book of Enoch. If I can figure out this stuff, why haven't you? We don't need pseudo–history to support the fact of giants on our planet. There are tons of bones all over it to testify to the reality that there were giants both before and after the Flood. Some people say there still are, that they have seen them. If we are cleansed by the Blood of Yeshua, we are also protected by it and don't have to worry about them, though there is nothing wrong with making others aware, if we are called to do that.
