New Name
The Bible says that Jesus will give each of His redeemed a new name that only He and the individual will know. I wonder what the new names will sound like, possibly not anything like human language, but we will know only what our own sounds like. Each name will be an intimate secret known only to God and the person He gives it to.
I imagine that there will be worlds of meaning in each name, containing the essence of our soul, God's purpose for our existence, wonderful attributes that He designed into us, His personal passion for us, memories of things we did for Him, His appreciation of our obedience, and the history of how that obedience resulted in ongoing blessings to others we never even met in our lifetime on Earth.
We could be anywhere in Heaven, or in the cosmos, or even visiting another universe, if God wills, and when we hear that sound, we will instantly rush to the Great Lover of our soul on a stream of joy, to see what He wants. Maybe some new mission, or to have a talk about His plans or spiritual truths, or just to hug each other.
I am looking forward to when I am in Heaven with Jesus and He gives me that new name, a unique name that nobody else will ever be given.
The Bible says Jesus will write our new name upon a white stone and give it to us, like a man who gives a precious jewel to his beloved wife to honour her. Will we wear it as a ring upon our finger or as a necklace?
I think that Jesus will place it in the deepest place of our heart, where it will radiate forever and be a mystery to everyone else who beholds it, like what is said between a husband and a wife in the privacy of their bedroom. Every one of us will know that, though God loves all of us, He loves each of us as if He thinks we are the most wonderful creature He ever made.
Revelation 2:17, "He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the churches; To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knows saving he that receives it."
Your word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
[Psalm 119:11]
